There are many cards in Legends of Runeterra, and each have their own stats and effects to make them unique. It can be overwhelming, especially if you’re new to the card game genre, to learn all these effects. That’s why we’re dissecting all the keywords in a series of guides. In this one we’re taking a look at Discard.
The Discard mechanic in Legends of Runeterra isn’t a very difficult one to grasp. When you play a card that tells you to Discard a card, the game shows you all the cards you have in your hand. You can then decide which cards you would like to keep, and which card you’re tossing away in order to get the upsides that come with cards that force you to throw away a card in hand. A couple of cards that have different Discard effects, where you don’t have much influence on the card that’s Discarded, but those have their effects described more detailed.
So far, there are only cards in Legends of Runeterra that make you Discard a card yourself. Similar to how there are no cards yet that force your opponent to draw cards, no cards exist yet that force your opponent to reduce their hand size. Below are a couple of cards that work with the Discard mechanic.
