In a dazzling ceremony, the 2023 LCK Awards commenced, with the first accolade of the evening being the Rookie of the Year. As it is an award that can be collected only once in a player’s career, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the rookies that debuted in 2023.

Securing the honor of the best newcomer for 2023 was none other than Kim “Peyz” Soo-hwan, affiliated with Gen.G Esports. Having his debut at age 17, Peyz adeptly filled the void left by Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk, impressing spectators with his decisive gameplay, defying the expectations usually associated with rookies. With the aid of Peyz’s dominant performance, Gen.G claimed the championships in both the 2023 LCK spring and summer splits. 

Expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award, Peyz shared, "When I watched the LCK Awards last year and saw other players receiving awards, I vowed to myself that I would receive one next year. Receiving the Rookie of the Year award is truly meaningful. I want to convey my gratitude to my teammates, coach, and staff who made this possible, and I'm also grateful to the fans."
