On Feb. 17, Gen.G swept Nongshim RedForce 2-0 in the 2022 LCK Spring Split, and collected their 7th win of the season. With the win, Gen.G concluded the first round of the season in 2nd place. After the match, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon joined Inven Global to talk about the first round.
How do you feel finishing the first round?
It’s a bit regretful, but I think we did pretty well. I’d like to prepare better for our next match and the next round so that we could get better results in the end.
What was the most regretful? Any games in specific?
Losing two games was the most regretful. Game 1 against T1 was the most regretful. We should have won. We made some wrong decisions and one thing led to another.
How about the COVID-19 situation within the team?
Frankly, it’s kind of unfair in a way, but there’s nothing we can do. It’s just a bummer.
You’ve played half a season with new and old teammates. How was it working with them?
We didn’t have much trouble building teamwork and synergy. Everyone did their roles well, and things went well from that point on. It may have been more convenient since I played with Doran and Lehends before, but since they’re great players, I don’t think it would have been much harder even if I didn’t play with them before.
You’d be working harder to get better results in the second round. What are you focusing on improving the most?
Everyone on the team is doing well. I just need to maintain and improve my own form, so I’m focusing on that right now. In League of Legends, you just need to do better than your opponent. Starting from laning to the team game. If we keep on playing better than our opponents, we’ll keep winning, and if we keep winning, we’ll become the best team. I’m working hard to make that happen.
Old school mages are appearing often in the current meta. What do you think about the current meta?
I think the mid mage meta comes around at least once every year. It’s simply about how well mid laners scale to deal more damage in the late game. The game now depends more on which team prepared a better draft. You can say the composition is the most important in the current meta — I think the composition is more important than ever.
You’ve been around for quite a long time now. Is there anything you’d personally like to achieve besides winning the championship?
To come to think of it, I have been playing for longer than it feels. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows playing this game — there are difficult times regarding mentality and morale. I guess my goal would be to overcome all those issues and play for a long time.
How long do you want to be active as a pro player?
Honestly, I don’t know. It always changes depending on how I feel.
Any last comments?
COVID-19 is running more than ever. I hope everyone’s okay. Thank you for all your support. I’ll keep doing my best to make you happy.
