On August 16, DRX took on SeolHaeOne Prince on day 41 of the 2020 LCK Summer split. It was a hard-fought 2-1 victory for DRX, and with it, they were able to secure at least 2nd place in the regular split standings. In a post-match interview, the bot laner for DRX, Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu, shared that he feels the direction of the team’s practice is not right and shared that it needs to be fixed.

After the series, Deft joined the press room for a post-match interview.

Can you tell us how you feel about the victory?

My immediate feeling is relief. It feels like the direction of our practice has gone in the wrong direction. There were moments during the series where we could’ve solidified our lead, but we couldn’t make the best of those opportunities. Also, we made mistakes during the drafts that we couldn’t come back from. I feel that we need to reorganize the tier list of our drafts.

Can you tell us some of the things that need change?

We'd usually pick the champions that we were either good at or preferred. When we'd draft a team composition without frontline tanks, the enemy would also draft in a similar way. That resulted in favor for us. However, SP drafted a heavy engage team composition with a strong frontline, which proved to be tricky for us. Taking this into consideration, we practiced playing with an imperfect team composition, which didn’t work out for us in this series.

Some expressed criticism that because Kindred was a fail pick in game 1, as it couldn’t provide aid in getting priority for the laners. Also, Pyosik doubted he Lillia pick, which he vocally expressed in comms before the end of game 3. Can you tell us more about it?

If the jungle champion is going to be a damage-dealing champion, it’s better that we have a tank champion in another role. We practiced a team composition that contained champions who have lane priority and having a damage-dealing champion to close out games. We also tried to shift the direction of our playstyle during the game, but the results turned out to be poor.

You’re answering our questions standing up. How is your back pain?

It’s gotten a lot better. I’m not standing up because of the pain. I was told that it’s better to stand for a long time, so that’s what I’m doing. I’ve also returned to my original practice routine.

You pulled out Caitlyn today. What’s your take on the champion?

As long as Caitlyn doesn’t die and has priority throughout the game, it’s a great pick. It’s a good champion inside a perfected team composition, but I think Ashe and Jhin are better if a team’s playing a snowball comp around priority.

Your last opponent of the regular split is T1. 

If we were playing against T1 tonight, we would’ve definitely lost. It seems that there are a lot of things to fix, and if we do, we can definitely beat them.

What did you think was the toughest thing SP showed in their gameplay?

Overall, I felt that their connection between their bot lane and mid-jungle was really strong. I felt like their bot lane made great use of the mid-jungle pressure.

Lastly, a word to your fans?

If we beat T1 and we’re lucky, we can come in 1st place. We’ll make sure to pour everything we got. My back pain is getting better, so I want to thank all the fans that are worried about me.
