Afreeca Freecs Blue advanced to the semifinals of OGN Overwatch APEX by beating REUNITED in a close and thrilling 3-2. Most impressive was Wonhyeop "ArHaN" Jeong, who put his team off to a strong start with his trademark Genji before switching to Soldier: 76 to again save the day.
Inven met with ArHaN to hear his thoughts about today's match.
How do you feel?
It's my first time advancing to an OGN semifinal - in other games, quarterfinals was the furthest I could get - so I feel great. I don't think I played as well as our tanks, though. They were completely on point today.
Were you not satisfied with your performance, then?
I kept getting caught out, once even getting lost when our Pharah bumped away the enemy Ana. I also did a poor job against the enemy Genji and Tracer.
You did make a remarkable contribution with Soldier: 76, though.
Looking at the enemy team composition, I felt I could stay almost untouched if I picked Soldier: 76. The situation was perfectly set up for me to keep on poking from the second floor. Their Genji response came too late.
Did you expect to play all five sets today?
After winning Set 1 we told ourselves that we will win 3-0. My Genji worked really well on Lijiang tower and Temple of Anubis, so we were really confident. However, I was not good enough to withhold the enemy Tracer, and the series took a hard turn.
Both Afreeca and REUNITED picked a lot of Pharah today. Is she back to her full former glory?
We were going to put out a lot of pressure with Pharah and Genji, but the enemy D.Va did a great job of pushing us back. Pharah won't be a shoe-in if D.Va continues to appear frequently.
Which team are you expecting to meet in the semifinals?
I expect LW Blue to advance because the recent patch completely shook up the game. LW Blue is the side with the better teamwork, which always helps a team adjust to a new patch faster.
Any last words?
Thanks to all fans, family, and friends for supporting us. I am determined to bring home the trophy and then go out to drink with my friends. [laughs]
