On day 3 of the 2022 LoL World Championship group stages, Gen.G defeated 100 Thieves to put their first victory of the tournament on the board. After falling to RNG on day 1 of groups, the team recalibrated their game plan and showcased a performance that was closer to how dominant they looked in the Summer split.

After the match, the jungler for Gen.G, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, joined Inven Global for a post-match interview. He first shared what exactly went wrong against RNG, stating how they drafted a risky comp against them. 

“The team composition we drafted was definitely a risky one, and the game became increasingly harder to play when the enemy Lissandra started to gain momentum. Also, it feels like everyone was a bit nervous due to how it was our first match of the tournament.”

Peanut shared that every team has a unique analysis on the meta, and emphasized the necessity of flexibility in Gen.G’s drafts. Furthermore, he also praised the LEC teams for their performance in groups so far.

“Seeing how every team has their unique take and analysis on the current meta left a great impression. It’s hard to deduce a single answer to the meta, so it's important to be able to draft and execute various team compositions. 

LEC have been very impressive. Their mid and bot lanes are very good at carrying the game, top lakers are very solid on tanks, and their macro have been very solid as well. Simply put, they’re not to be underestimated.”

However, the same opinion did not stand true for the LCS teams. Despite Evil Geniuses’ successful run in the play-in stages, the LCS has yet to pick up a single victory in the group stages. Peanut was definitely not impressed.

“In comparison to the other major regions, LCS is definitely looking weaker than the rest. However, it’s not to say that they can’t go toe to toe against the other major regions. They gain advantages, but they make huge mistakes that cost them their games.

Lastly, he shared that it’s hard to deduce which team looks the strongest, stating that the LEC, LPL, and the LCK can all take games off one another.

“Based on scrims [and stage performances], it’s hard to deduce a single team that stands undisputed among the rest. We’ll need to stay wary and never underestimate any one of our competition.”
