The 2022 LCK Spring Finals will take place at KINTEX, Ilsan, on April 2nd.
KINTEX is a location that has a spot in early LCK history. It was the place where the first finals was held between MiG Frost vs MiG Blaze, with MiG Blaze claiming the very first title in LCK history. Since then, two more finals have been held at KINTEX, in 2013 & 2014 Spring.
Lee Jung-hoon, the secretary general of the LCK, comments, “LCK has gone through numerous transformations over the past 10 years. We decided to host the finals at KINTEX this year, because as we look towards the next 10 years of the LCK, we wanted to pay tribute to the players, the fans, and the teams from those 10 years.”
This is the first time the LCK Finals welcomes the fans back to the venue in two and a half years. The last time it was back in the 2019 Summer Finals, between SKT T1 vs Griffin. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, the 2020 Spring Finals was forced to be held without an audience at LoL Park, with 2020 Summer Finals and 2021 Spring Finals being held in an online format. Although the 2021 Summer Finals was held at a different location, spectators were still barred from watching the match. Details such as ticketing will be announced at a later time.
The playoffs to determine the two teams that will head to the finals will be held on the 23rd & 24th [round 1], and 26th & 27th [round 2]. Both round 1 and 2 will all be in a Bo5 format. The 3rd and 6th place teams will face each other on the 23rd, and the 4th and 5th place teams will face off on the 24th. T1 and Gen.G have locked in their spots as the #1 and #2 team of the regular split, so they’ll be seeded directly in round 2. As the 1st place team, T1 will be able to choose one of the winning teams of round 1, with Gen.G facing off against the other team. Round 2 winners will then head to the finals.
As the number of COVID cases continue to increase in Korea, the LCK has created special guidelines for the playoffs. According to these guidelines, if any player in the playoffs that tests positive still wishes to play, the player may do so at an isolated location, provided by the respective teams. However, if the player cannot play, then teams will follow the original guidelines and call up emergency subs.
