On Feb. 10, in the 2022 LCK Spring Split, DWG KIA swept Kwangdong Freecs, and Liiv SANDBOX upset Gen.G 2-0. Prior to today's match, Gen.G had COVID-19 issues as Han "Peanut" Wang-ho tested positive. Also, Son "Lehends" Si-woo and Go "Score" Dong-bin made close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case, they were required to have a 10-day self-quarantine. Due to these issues, Gen.G started substitute members in their jungle and support.
The first match was between DWG KIA and Kwangdong Freecs. In game 1, Kwangdong Freecs picked two new champions: Akshan and Zeri. The game went rather slow, as first blood came after 10 minutes. DWG KIA had a slight lead through the laning phase. After the laning phase, Kwangdong Freecs started to catch up with Kim "Kiin" Gi-in's great performance on Akshan, and they collected three dragons by the 21-minute mark. However, it was DWG KIA who took Baron, and Kwangdong Freecs fell behind again. Kwangdong Freecs managed to grab another chance as they cut off the opponent jungler, but they were cleaned up while attempting Baron. DWG KIA marched in and concluded the game with Seo "deokdam" Dae-gil's pentakill.
Game 2 turned into a slugfest from early. Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu collected two kills in two bot gank attempts. At the 2v2 surrounding the dragon, the two teams traded kills. When DWG KIA cut off Ryu "Hoit" Ho-seong's Lux, Kwangdong Freecs hit back by cutting off Kim "Kellin" Hyeong-gyu's Karma. After all the skirmishes were settled, it was DWG KIA that went ahead, as they collected more CS in all lanes and took several turret plates. From mid-game, the two teams eased off a bit, and they took two dragons each. At the 28-minute mark, DWG KIA was able to slay Baron after cutting off Lux. With the Baron buff, DWG KIA pushed through, and Kwangdong Freecs didn't have the damage to stop them. DWG KIA destroyed the Nexus in 31 minutes and collected their 4th win.
Gen.G faced Liiv SANDBOX without Peanut and Lehends. The early game went quietly except for the first blood Liiv SANDBOX picked up through a gank, but as the game passed the 10-minute mark, Kim "Croco" Dong-beom's Lee Sin started to fly all over the Rift. In that process, Lee "Clozer" Joo-hyeon's Akali and Yoon "Ice" Sang-hoon's Zeri were able to scale. Liiv SANDBOX took four straight dragons. Gen.G fell so far behind that there was no way to come back. After Liiv SANDBOX slew the Elder Dragon, they finished the game.
Gen.G was completely different in game 2. Liiv SANDBOX picked a charging comp as they picked Tryndamere, Diana, and Irelia. However, this was easily countered by Gen.G's Xin Zhao pick. At the first Rift Herald fight, Gen.G had a huge win, picking up 4 kills. Gen.G had another big win at the next Rift Herald and they slew Baron that just appeared. The global gold difference was already more than 8K at this point. After slaying the second Baron, Gen.G easily took Liiv SANDBOX's base.
In game 3, Croco's Trundle ganked mid lane to pick up first blood. Croco continued to pressure Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon's Vex, but failed to get additional kills. The game went back and forth, but at the 3rd dragon, Gen.G had a big win and collected 4 kills. The dragon soul was at stake for the teamfight at the 25-minute mark. In this fight, Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk's Aphelios landed a great ult and dealt massive damage and Gen.G scored an ace. There was no turning around from that point. Gen.G slowly closed in on Liiv SANDBOX and finished the game.
