[LCK Today] T1, Gen.G remain undefeated in the LCK after 2-0 sweeps

Day 7 of the 2022 LCK Spring split came to a conclusion, with both T1 and Gen.G taking a 2-0 victory against DRX and Fredit BRION respectively. Both T1 and Gen.G continue their undefeated match streak with their victories tonight, continuing to prove themselves as the top dogs of the LCK.

Match 1 of the day kicked off with T1 facing off against DRX. T1 drafted a heavy engage team composition, which centered around Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s Tryndamere. Despite DRX drafting a comp that answered T1’s engage, they ultimately failed to stop Faker’s Tryndamere.

T1 managed to take early leads both in the jungle and in the bot side, which resulted in a 4-1 kill score lead at seven minutes. DRX managed to even up the score by forcing T1 to rotate to the Rift Herald, where ‘Kingen-Pyosik’ managed to carry the teamfight and evened up the scoreboard. However, Faker managed to rake in kills in the chaotic teamfight that followed; by the 15 minute mark, he was 5/0/3. From that point on, Faker’s side lane pressure was too much for DRX to handle, candidly closing out game 1 shortly after.

Game 2 was a game that displayed superior macro game by T1. Both T1 and DRX traded kills in the early game. However, DRX was unable to answer Choi “Zeus” Woo-je’s side lane pressure in the mid-game, allowing T1 to further snowball their leads. DRX proceeded to try and take the dragon, but the poke from Faker’s Corki heavily chunked members of DRX during the dragon dance. At that point, Zeus’ Fiora successfully flanked DRX from behind, thus winning the teamfight and leading them to take Baron Nashor. By 29 minutes, T1 destroyed DRX’s Nexus, and took a clean 2-0 victory.

In the second match of the day, Gen.G faced off against Fredit BRION. In game 1, Gen.G drafted a team composition that scaled hard into the mid-late game, which meant that their comp was weaker in the early game. Fredit BRION managed to utilize their early game priority to gain early advantages, but Gen.G was smart in answering their early game aggression. Han “Peanut” Wang-ho was very smart with his macro; not only did he manage to sneak the Rift Herald, he also managed to ambush the bot lane, even gifting a kill to Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk.

Gen.G’s team composition really came online in the mid game, where they utilized the power of the ‘Camille-Galio-Jarvan IV’ combo to come out on top of skirmishes. Despite being pressured, Um “UmTi” Sang-hyeon’s Lee Sin managed to catch out Ruler’s Jinx in the teamfight by their Inhibitor turret, and kept themselves in the game. However, Gen.G’s lead proved to be too much to overcome, as they utilized the power of ‘Camille-Galio-Jarvan IV’ to the fullest.

Unlike game 1, Gen.G drafted a team composition that was a lot stronger in the early game. With all Gen.G laners having priority, Peanut’s Talon was free to move around the map as much as he wanted. When Doran started to take turret plates in the top lane, Fredit BRION rotated to the top lane to kill Graves. However, Gen.G had a good read on their opponents, where they not only managed to turn around the top dive, they also scored kills in the bot lane at the same time. With the lead that they had, Peanut’s Talon continued to invade the enemy jungle with Son “Lehends” Si-woo’s Yuumi riding on his back; with it, Peanut gained a 50 CS lead over UmTi.

Despite being down, Fredit BRION fought back, as the carries of the team managed to shut down Peanut’s Talon. However, Gen.G always came out on top during dragon teamfights. The key teamfight came down to the dragon soul contest, as Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s Orianna lived with a sliver of health, and Ruler’s Jhin killed off his enemies one by one. By the 34 minute mark, Gen.G destroyed Fredit BRION’s Nexus and continued their undefeated match streak in the LCK.
