On July 31, in the 2021 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Split, T1 faced Fredit BRION and Afreeca Freecs played DRX. While T1 managed to defeat Fredit BRION 2-1, Afreeca Freecs fell to DRX 1-2. DRX collected their second win of the season through today’s win.
The first match was between Fredit BRION and T1. With Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s LeBlanc, T1 took the win in the first game. From the laning phase, Faker pressured Lee “Yaharong” Chan-ju’s Renekton fiercely and scaled massively. Through the lead, Faker dealt explosive damage the whole game and brought the first game to T1.
Fredit BRION responded in game 2 by substituting in Kim “Lava” Tae-hoon. The mid lane matchup was same, but Lava utilized Renekton’s strengths well and contributed to Fredit BRION’s win.
In the third game, T1 smiled from the draft. T1’s composition was one that could take priority in the laning phase, and they took the lead from the early game. Through the lead, T1 kept snowballing and the global gold difference widened to 5,000 at the 15-minute mark. With the lead, T1 took game 3 and collected their 9th win of the season.
DRX and Afreeca Freecs faced off in the second match. While most fans predicted an easy win for Afreeca Freecs, DRX’s performance in game 1 was great. They forced fights when they had more players around and gained kills and gold. Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon’s great performance on Nidalee contributed greatly to their win.
In game 2, DRX had a good start again. They gained the early game priority and started shaking Afreeca Freecs with sidelane macro. However, Afreeca Freecs endured until their main damage dealers — Gangplank, Orianna, and Aphelios — scaled. While they did, they also collected three dragons. When it was time, Afreeca Freecs changed the flow at the dragon fight and turned the game around.
In the end, the winner was DRX. Like game 2, the two teams traded kills all around the Rift, but DRX took a step further. They started winning fight after fight from the Rift Herald teamfight. As DRX started to inch ahead, Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon’s Ornn became near-invincible along with Pyosik’s Xin Zhao. Afreeca Freecs’ lacked the firepower to penetrate through them. As DRX destroyed Afreeca Freecs’ Nexus, they collected their second win of the season.
