On April 23, DWG KIA headed to Iceland to participate in the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational. By winning the 2021 LCK Spring Split championship, DWG KIA earned their ticket to Reykjavík, Iceland. The team will go into a six-day quarantine after arriving. During the quarantine, they’ll be tested of COVID-19 twice.
In the current pandemic situation, it's difficult to hold such a big international event, yet Riot Games made the effort to make it happen. Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun was thankful to Riot. “The world is still struggling with the coronavirus pandemic, but Riot is taking the trouble to hold this event. I’m thankful for that.”
11 teams will be participating in this year’s MSI. When asked which team he was looking out for the most, kkOma chose RNG. “We have to look out for all teams as much as the tournament will be held in a new patch. But if I were to pick one team, it would be RNG. I think RNG is the strongest among the teams that made it to the MSI.”
Although kkOma has appeared in and won many international tournaments, it was his first time heading to one in DWG KIA, and it’s also DWG KIA’s first MSI. “We’re heading to the MSI to represent LCK. We need to feel responsible and do our best to work hard so that we could win the championship,” said kkOma.
Lastly, kkOma didn’t forget the fans. “Please cheer for us to the end and we’ll repay you with good performance. Thank you always.”
