On April 4, T1 faced off against Gen.G in the second semifinals match of the 2021 LCK Spring playoffs. Despite many experts in the scene predicting T1 to take the series, as well as the series itself being a lot closer, Gen.G was able to take the clean 3-0 victory. They will now be facing DWG KIA in the grand finals, taking place on April 10.
Gen.G started their series off with a team composition that far outscaled that of T1. Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s Jinx was the key to their victory in game 1, as Gen.G’s snowball started rolling with an early bot lane gank. With Ornn in the front lines and Jinx’s ability to hypercarry, Gen.G was able to take all the objectives and took a clean game 1 victory.
Gen.G’s momentum continued in game 2. From stealing Rift Herald to catching out Jayce in the side lanes, Gen.G continued to take advantages and won one teamfight after another. Eventually, it came to the point where Gen.G had enough fuel left in their tank to take the teamfight victory after securing Baron Nashor. With Sion and Sett in their front lines, Gen.G took another set win and led the series 2-0.
Game 3 looked quite different from the previous games in the series, as T1 was able to take Rift Herald and dragons to take a commanding lead in the early-mid game. However, Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong’s Syndra was the hero that Gen.G needed, as not only did he shut down T1’s usage of the Rift Herald, he was able to get the kills on T1’s main carries in teamfights. While T1 managed to take the Baron and attempted to come back into the game, Gen.G took a huge teamfight victory shortly after and closed out the series 3-0.
