On the 22nd (KST), T1 took on DragonX in Round 2 of the 2020 LCK Playoffs. With a set score of 3-1, T1 took down DRX to head into the finals to face Gen.G. With this victory, Faker now heads to his 9th LCK final, and looks to continue his legacy.
T1’s Mid Laner/Part Owner, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, joined Inven Global to talk about the victory and his mindset heading into the LCK finals.
T1’s finally heading into the finals. How does it feel to be heading into the finals to hunt for your 9th LCK championship trophy?
I really wanted to make it to the finals this year, and I made it, so I’m very happy.
DRX’s draft was very interesting. Did you predict it? How did the team react to the enemy’s draft?
I knew that Deft liked to play unorthodox picks, so I saw it coming. The team didn’t really feel too indifferent about it.
Chovy has a rival-like relationship with you. How was it to play against him in such an important match?
I don’t think I played as well as I’d like to tonight, but I’m happy that the games went well. It just sucked that I fell behind in lane, so I’m not too satisfied with my performance.
Even still, all the teammates played their part really well. Who’s your pick for the MVP tonight?
Although everyone played well, I’d have to say Canna.
Fans are sad that you’re only using the basic skin on Rumble and Corki because they’re so ugly. Is there a chance that you’ll be using a different skin on those two champions?
Nope, and I never will.
After the two domestic title wins in 2019, you continue to create your legacy in 2020. How do you rate your own recent performance?
I don’t think my recent performances have been very good. I’ll make sure to work harder in the two days I have left to perform well in the finals.
You played in many finals in the past. Has anything changed for you as a player?
Not really. I just have the mindset that I need to play well. That’s the basic mindset that I have.
Your ‘Official Hater’, Wolf, returned to T1 as a streamer. How do you feel about it?
I don’t feel too thrilled about it.
Are you willing to take part of the various content he’ll be creating?
Now that he’s part of our organization as a streamer, I’ll help out in any way I can.
From World Cone (a popular ice cream brand in Korea) to BMW, you’re doing a lot of sponsor work/shooting commercials. Is there a specific brand that you absolutely want to work with?
Hmm, I’m open to all sorts of deals that come my way. It doesn’t really matter.
Gen.G is the only opponent that stands between T1 and the LCK Championship trophy. There are a lot of storylines behind the rivalry, and your opponents are no pushovers. How will you be preparing for the finals?
Gen.G’s our toughest opponent this season, so there’s no way to go about it other than practicing really hard. It doesn’t really matter who my opponent is. I’ll just do my thing to prepare for them.
As T1 went to the finals on multiple occasions, there’s a strong fanbase that supports the team as well. How do you feel to play in the finals without the fans cheering you on?
It feels really bad. It’s really fun for me to hold various fan events at the finals, but although it sucks that they can’t be there, there’s nothing I can do about it I guess.
Lastly, a word to your fans?
We won our series tonight, and we’ll make sure to also perform well in the finals.
Also, a word to your teammates?
You all so played well tonight. I believe that you’ll all do well in the finals as well.
