The last team that made it through the 2019 LoL World Championship Play-ins was Splyce. Not many expected the game would be this close; Splyce defeated Unicorns of Love in an extremely close 3-2 match. Bot laner Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup said that he was exhausted but relieved that he made it into groups in an interview after the match.
Congratulations on the win. After a full 5-game match against UOL, you've made it to the group stage. How do you feel right now?
I feel exhausted. I think we were clearly the better team but we didn't really show it. I don't think we played that well. So I'm a bit sad that we went to 5 games and it was so close, but I'm also relieved that we won in the end.
How did you prepare for this series?
We looked at the games from the play-in stage and saw a bit of their picks. After the first game, we decided to ban off Kayle because we thought she had big impact for them. If we didn't close out the game properly, then Kayle will always be strong in the really late game. Otherwise, we just focus on ourselves in scrims, etc to just improve our game.
The last game was all about concentration and focus. How did you maintain or seek focus during the game?
It gets hard in the last game because everyone is exhausted. It's just when it matters the most, so the more experience you have, the more fresh you are... It's important stay hydrated and things like that. The mental game is really important for those game 5s and I think we were on top of that, and just simply the better team as well.
You were on an 8-game winning streak on Xayah from the summer split, but you dropped a game today. Weren't you a little bit sad and how is Xayah in the current meta?
I was really sad to lose on Xayah because this year, whenever I pick her, it's just... I think to myself and our team thinks it's almost a free win. So I was really sad but it was the same in LEC, I was 100% with Vayne as well but I lost one game. It's just unlucky, but I think it's still a really strong champion in the current meta.
What's your mindset going to the group stage?
We're going to have to improve a lot if we're going to have a chance to make it out of the group stage. I believe we can do it, but I'm not really happy with what we showed today again. I think we're just not playing as well as we can.
