On the 8th (KST), SK Telecom T1 prepared to board their flights alongside Griffin to participate group stages of the 2019 LoL World Championship. As expected, the player that received the most attention was Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok. Because of how Faker couldn’t participate in last year’s LoL World Championship, he promised to show good results in this year’s tournament. As for his comments on his group, which is also known as the ‘Group of Death’, he said that “We’ll eventually meet those teams sooner or later.”
His first words were about how he failed to make it into the tournament last year, so his appearance this year has significantly more meaning than any other years, and stated, “I want to capture the trophy that I was so close to winning 2 years ago.” He also told us that he needed to maintain a good condition and quickly overcome jet lag for the upcoming tournament.
SKT is in group C, alongside RNG and Fnatic. Many have predicted that his group won’t be easy, but Faker showed his confidence as a veteran and said “I didn’t even watch the group draws because I didn’t care which group we were in. Eventually, we’re going to have to defeat all these teams.” About playing against their long time rivals, RNG, he “Wonders how it will feel to play against them this time.”
About the current meta, he stated, “I’m also analyzing different champions and practicing them”, and that his team’s performance took priority over the meta. “It’s a patch with many different changes, so although the meta may have shifted, the most important thing is my team’s overall performance. The only team that we’re worried about the most is ourselves.”
Finally, he said, “LCK didn’t do so well on the international stages last year, so I’ll do my best to provide good results.”
