On the 31st of August (KST), SK Telecom T1 defeated Griffin in the 2019 LCK Summer Split Finals to win their 8th LCK Championship. SKT again defeated Griffin in the finals, this time, with a score of 3-1. After the match, the players and head coach of SKT spoke about how they felt.

Head coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-kyun started by saying that he was really happy. “The whole team, players, coaching staff… Everybody struggled a lot because our performance wasn’t great early in the season.” He continued on to thank the fans. “Although we struggled, fans continued to believe us. It felt a bit like the fans didn’t believe us when we were on the losing streak, but their cheering and support led us up here. I’ll always do my best to repay them.”

Also, kkOma announced that he’ll be getting married. “I’ll be getting married in December. I’d like to tell my fiancee that I love her.”

Next was Kim “Khan” Dong-ha. “This is my fourth finals championship. As I stack championships up in my career, it feels that I’m getting more and more recognized of my accomplishments as a pro player. When I was getting whipped by Doran, it was a bit confusing whether this was heaven or hell, but now that we won, I can see that it’s heaven.”

Kim “Clid” Tae-min, who won the MVP award, also spoke up. “We’ve won spring and summer this year. The reason many people call me ‘the treasure of SKT’ is because of my teammates. Frankly, we should have been able to win 3-0, but we had to play another game because of my mistake. Still, I’m extremely happy that we won in the end.”

About having stolen Baron to Lee “Effort” Sang-ho, “I was so caught up; fortunately, Effort was able to steal it, so that we could win. He did a big thing today.” Clid concluded by expressing his expectation towards Worlds. “Although we won both LCK championships this year, I still don’t have a world championship. I’ll go on and win this year’s Worlds.”

The legend, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was next. “I wanted to deliver a performance that can make draw the fans to the stadium. I’m really happy that we won the championship.” As it is known that Effort always tries to get the SKT players to hit the Nexus, Faker said, “Everybody thinks Effort is the only one that likes to destroy the Nexus. In fact, I like hitting the Nexus too.”

Faker continued by rating his teammates and about Worlds. “Since everyone did quite well today, I can give them a 9.1 out of 10. I’ll make sure that we can have a 10 out of 10 performance at Worlds. I think Worlds is what really counts. I’d like to have revenge on G2 Esports this time. We lost to them in the semis… This time, I’ll avenge them.”

The ADC that won MVP in the finals, Park “Teddy” Jin-seong spoke next. “I’m very happy that we were able to make it to win the championship.” He expressed confidence in the performance of SKT’s bot lane, himself, and Effort, “Viper and Lehends are good players, but I think Effort and I am better. Our whole team was really good so we were able to play comfortably.”

Teddy also spoke his determinations at Worlds. “We weren’t able to deliver good enough performance at the MSI… This time, I’ll put in more effort so that we can show better performances.”

“It’s the first time I’ve actually played on stage in the finals,” started Effort. He commented on SKT players about hitting the Nexus. “Maybe because of the weight today’s match has, my teammates all concentrated on ending the game today, so I’m extremely satisfied with that.” As the player known to be always nagging his teammates about hitting the Nexus, he thought it wasn’t over till it’s over. “I didn’t think we won until we destroyed the Nexus in Game 4. After we destroyed the Nexus, I was finally able to ease my mind. LoL’s objective is to destroy the enemy Nexus.”

Effort didn’t forget to thank his teammates for all the help. “I was able to win this time because all my teammates helped me so much. At Worlds, I’ll practice a lot more and show carrying performances.”

Last but not least, sub player Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong shared a word. “Effort is a player that does so well. I believe he’ll become the heart of SKT. Effort was awesome today.” Although he wasn’t able to play on stage today, Mata was still determined. “It’s my third straight championship against Griffin in the finals. Although I wasn’t playing on stage, I did my best so that I could be of help to my teammates. I’ll prepare more so that I can push off Effort in the starting lineup.”
