OGN announced that APEX Season 2, the major Overwatch tournament in Korea, will be held at the Seoul OGN e-Stadium in Sangam-dong at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17th (PST).
In this tournament, four teams invited from overseas and 12 domestic teams will compete with each other. APEX Season 2 is planning to continue its success from the last season, which had more than 90,000 concurrent viewers.
Notably, the EnVyUs team consisting of players such as Taimou and Mickie, which gave great impressions to the fans last season, has confirmed their participation, and we are anticipating a game even more spectacular than the previous season’s.
In this season, the gap between the domestic and overseas teams has been significantly reduced. We expect to see more inspiring games since the play style of the participants in the tournament has become more diverse and elaborate.
Overwatch APEX season 2 has a total prize of 200 million Won (about 167,000 USD); 100 million Won is awarded to the winner and 40 million Won is given to the runner-up. Participation money of 1 million Won per game is also distributed to the winners and losers.
4 teams from each group will have a full league in the round of 16, including the opening match. Quarter-finals will be held in a double elimination format. All games aside from the finals will be Bo5, and the map selection will be conducted in 10 battlegrounds selected by the host in all matches.
OGN will broadcast the entire event, including the opening game, through its TV channel and online platform, TVing, for the fans who might not be able to visit the event in person.
You can find more detailed information about Overwatch APEX season 2 via the OGN homepage and social media announcement. A bracket for Ro16, full league schedule, and news for overseas teams will be continuously updated.
