LINE Games announced their major lineup of 2019.
At the media conference called LPG (LINE Games - Play - Game): with Press at Le Meridien Seoul on December 12, the company announced 10 new titles that will be released on various platforms.
The company is an affiliate of LINE, a global mobile messenger company, and acquired Next Floor, the company known for its flagship title Dragon Flight, in August 2018. Following major investments received from LINE, the company recently received another investment from Anchor Equity Partners.
“We’ve always wanted to become ‘the people who make fun games’ since Next Floor, and this still stays the same even with the different company name. We’ll form ‘an alliance’ with developers and secure our competitiveness in the market by ‘expanding the platform spectrum,’” said Min Gyu Kim, CEO of LINE Games.
6 mobile titles to be released globally next year
LINE Games announced the new mobile lineup of 2019 at LPG; Exos Heroes, Super String, Dark Summoners, Ravenix: The Card Master, Adventure in Wizville, and Project PK.
Exos Heroes, currently being developed by OOZOO, is a mobile collectible RPG with cutting-edge 3D graphics, a fascinating story, and more than 200 collectible characters with different abilities and characteristics that players can level up. The title is expected to be released earlier than the rest of the lineup.
Super String, a mobile strategy RPG by Factorial Games, involves popular webtoon IPs such as Blade of the Phantom Master and Terror Man. The title is nicknamed ‘The Asian Avengers’ and features realistic movements and sophisticated 3D graphics.
A one-handed, real-time Mobile Strategy RPG named Dark Summoners that gives players full control over their avatar and summoned beasts to scan battlefields and strategically plan their moves. The game features a variety of contents, including scenario quests and the multiplayer mode that brings three players as a team to hunt gigantic monsters, as well as a PvP arena for players to compete for each other’s precision controls and strategic depth.
Ravenix: The Card Master, a mobile TCG by OOZOO, claims that “entertaining difficulties” are the title’s key phrase. With high-end strategic gameplay including Management, Simulation, and Analysis, the title aims to deliver new enjoyment to not only those in South Korea but all strategy and card game fans over the world.
A unique match-3 Mobile Puzzle Game for everyone with a focus on social interaction. Illustrating a lovely wizard village, the game takes the genre up a notch by integrating interesting story plots and social platforms for users to share their avatars and homes, which players can decorate with costumes and accessories.
Project PK aims to be a high-end Action Survival Adventure developed for mobile devices. Players can explore the unrelenting wilderness inhabited by hostile enemies and monsters, powered by Unreal Engine 4 to offer console-quality experience filled with stunning visual effects and actions.
Mobile, console, and PC - “fun challenges” with no platform boundaries
LINE Games then spoke of their future plans and ambition of continuing the “fun challenges” through various platforms such as Steam, console, and PC.
The company made a joint development agreement for Uncharted Waters Origin with Koei Tecmo Games on November 30, and the title is currently being developed on multiple platforms including mobile and Steam. It is expected to be released globally in the year 2020 when the Uncharted Water series commemorates its 30th anniversary.
In the vast open world of Uncharted Waters Origin, players will make their own histories, exploring over 200 ports across the world with over 1,000 major historical characters, and will be challenged to
discover over thousands of artifacts and equipment representing various medieval cultures.
“I’m very excited to make Uncharted Waters Origin with LINE Games to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Uncharted Waters. We’ll do our best to maintain your support and interest in the game until the release in 2020,” said Tomokatsu Takeda, Director at Koei Tecmo Games.
Project NL by Meerkat GAMES is also in development on multiple platforms including mobile and Steam.
A Survival MOBA for Steam and mobile, the tentatively titled PC project brings together 100 players in a real-time battlefield. Set in a unique fantasy world painted in elegant pastel color scheme, players will dive into fierce competitions to outlast each other, devising the best strategy possible by leveling up their heroes and making the most of the surrounding environment.
A console title is also one of LINE Games’ “fun challenges”. Buried Stars, currently being developed by LINE Games, is the first console title by Seung Ho Jin, Director, and creator of Panic Room and City of Mist, and is expected to be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in 2020.
The game’s genre is called communication, survival, and adventure. Players need to constantly manage mentality and relationships between characters and make decisions that will influence what ending the player will be able to achieve. The game features a combination of 2D characters and 3D backgrounds with lively sound effects.
On top of that, Project NM, which was announced at the very end of the conference, is a PC title currently being prepared by LINE Games. It was seen as an unusual choice considering the company has been mainly focusing on servicing mobile games. Project NM by Space Dive combines RPG and TPS with realistic in-game graphics.
Min Gyu Kim then concluded the conference by saying, “LINE Games will continue to strive for ‘fun challenges’ without limiting ourselves to a specific platform. Delivering unique entertainment on each platform and genre is what we wish to achieve.”
