On the 16th, in the Final match of the 2018 LCK Regional Qualifier, Gen.G Esports defeated Kingzone DragonX with a score of 3-0. With this victory, GEN won their ticket to play in the 2018 World Championship. Throughout today's series, CuVee displayed stellar performance. "I'm happy that I'll be going to Worlds. The foreign teams all play well this year, so I can't guarantee anything, but I want to win," he said.
The following is an interview with GEN CuVee.
You made it to Worlds! How do you feel?
We qualified for Worlds 3 years straight -- through the regional qualifier. I'm happy that we'll be attending despite our poor performance in the LCK. Although I want to win the LCK as well, the World Championship is more important -- if I was to choose between the two, I'd pick the latter.
You seemed very experienced with Aatrox. It seemed like you had spent a lot of time practicing him.
In solo queue, whenever available, I blind picked him and practiced. That's why I'm very confident when playing him. Aatrox is a very great champion nowadays.
In game 3, you picked Gangplank when the enemy team banned Aatrox.
I had prepared a lot of cards beforehand, so it didn't really matter when Aatrox was banned. Looking at the enemy team's composition in game 3, Gangplank seemed like a good choice, so we picked him.
Throughout the gauntlet, which team gave you the hardest time?
I think SKT T1 was the hardest opponent. The first is always the most important in any given situation, so I felt a lot of pressure while playing. They also gave us a hard time during picks and bans.
Who do you think you'll face at the World Championship? In addition, who do you want to meet the most?
Whenever I attended Worlds, I met RNG in groups. I think I'll meet them again this year. They're a team that I really want to win against.
Is there a team that you want to avoid facing?
I want to avoid facing any Korean teams.
GEN always seems to show up big when autumn comes... why?
Honestly speaking, I don't know. Maybe the meta favors us every autumn? Maybe we perform better after feeling the desperation every qualifier? I really don't know.
I bet you want to win two World Championships in a row.
All the foreign teams attending Worlds play well, so I can't guarantee anything. I can't even predict who'll come out on top. It'll be a cutthroat competition.
Also, of course I want to win. I can win a lot of money! (Laughs)
If you are to reach the Finals, which region do you think you'll meet there?
I think there is a high chance that a Chinese team will make it. It's very likely that it'll be a KR vs. CN Finals.
Any last words?
I want to say "good work," to all my teammates for having done so well throughout the regionals. As to my fans, I'm sorry for always qualifying for Worlds through the gauntlet... but hey, we made it, so I'll do my best at Worlds.
