Two-day admission tickets to the Overwatch League Grand Finals originally went on sale on May 18th for $60. With over 20,000 tickets sold, the event in New York was sold out on June 1st after two weeks of online sales.

Now, the only way to purchase tickets is from 3rd party websites. Ticketmaster.com is sold out, but other sites like StubHub.com, ticket-center.com, and vividseats.com are open for business offering two-day admission tickets for ~ $180 - $290 each. The large price range is due to differences in the quality of seats. One-day admission tickets are selling for roughly half the price.


A predictable outcome

This type of ticket price increases isn't uncommon for esports or sporting events of all sizes. Currently, floor seat tickets for Evo 2018 World Finals are selling for the inflated price of ~$249 - 525 per ticket. In addition, events like EVO, Dota 2's The International, and the League of Legends World Championships usually sell out online in a matter of minutes.  What historically follows is robust third-party ticket selling.

But it wasn't guaranteed that the OWL event would experience this ticket price increase. The OWL Grand Finals did not sell out at the same speed as other established tournaments causing many to worry about the league's popularity.

From the looks of it, the rising ticket prices show that the perceived value of attending the OWL grand finals event is increasing as the July 28th - 29th showtime draws nearer.

- Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m. EDT—Live on ESPN and Disney XD

- Saturday, July 28, at 4:30 p.m. EDT July 28—Live on ESPN3 and Disney XD

- Saturday, July 28, at 9 p.m. EDT—Re-air on ESPN2

- Sunday, July 29, at 3 p.m. EDT— Recap show on ABC and ESPN3
