Over 20,000 tickets sold: Overwatch League grand finals sells out at Barclays Center

Today, Blizzard announced that they had sold out of remaining tickets to attend the Overwatch League grand finals on July 27th - 28th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Newyork. Tickets went on sale on May 18th, meaning it took two weeks to secure the largest esports event the Barclays Center has ever held.

Nate Nanzer, Overwatch League Commissioner had this to say:

“We knew the Overwatch League had amazing, enthusiastic fans, but this is something else. We’re incredibly excited to play to a packed house at one of the world’s premier sports and entertainment arenas. With the help of our broadcast team, our partners, and Barclays Center, we’re going to put on a first-class show for everyone in attendance, and for the millions more who will be watching online.”|

Keith Sheldon, EVP of Programing at BSE Global (representing Barclays Center) has plans to make the stadium a known destination for massive esports events. Sheldon had the following to say in a press release given to Inven Global:

“We are thrilled with the momentum behind the Overwatch League Grand Finals. Our goal at Barclays Center is to be the destination for major esports events. That vision is taking shape as a result of a great partnership with the talented team behind the Overwatch League.”

With a $1.4 million prize pool at stake for the two teams that manage to make it to the grand finals, there is also the added prestige of being the champions of the first inaugural Overwatch League. Before that, however,  six teams will compete in the playoffs through July 11–21, at Blizzard Arena, Los Angeles.

There, teams will compete for their ticket to Brooklyn.

The Overwatch League Grand Finals will be streamed live from Barclays Center on TwitchOverwatchLeague.com and the Overwatch League app, and on MLG.com.
