Riot Games will conclude active development of its fighting game '2XKO' in December, just seven months after its official launch.

On the 20th, Riot Games stated, "While many players checked out the game and an incredible community that plays every day was formed, we haven't seen enough players stick with the game to establish a foundation for continued development."
The company explained that it analyzed player loyalty, inflow, and engagement alongside revenue, but saw no sustained change in trends even after releasing new champions and the PvE mode 'The Climb'. Currently, operating costs exceed revenue, the company noted. While reducing team size, adjusting patch schedules, and changing the business model were considered, Riot ultimately chose to finish its work-in-progress content and end active development.
The service will remain active. Servers will stay online beyond 2026, and the game will remain available for free download on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Offline play will also be unaffected. The company stated that it will give advance notice if server operation policies change.
Refunds will begin on August 21. On the same day, purchasing KO Points will be disabled and physical prepaid cards will no longer be usable. All KO Points and Starter Editions purchased prior to August 21 are eligible for full refunds. PC players will receive refunds through the payment method used at the time of purchase. Most will be processed within two weeks, with a goal to complete all PC refunds by November. PS and Xbox users will receive refunds through their respective platforms and payment processors. Korean and Japanese servers will be processed according to local laws and procedures, with eligible users notified via email. Currently owned content will remain available to use, and remaining KO Points can be spent in the rotating store until Patch 1.3.1.
Patch 1.3.1, arriving on September 9, will introduce 'Lux, the Lady of Luminosity', who was revealed at Evo 2026. All champions will be unlocked in the same patch, with only 'Fuses' requiring tutorial completion. The '2XKO Ultimate Bundle', which packages skins, chromas, taunts, and finish effects for all champions released to date, will also be sold for 56,000 won. Avatar items, stages, and player profile items will become purchasable with Credits, the free currency, and the 12,000 Credits cap will be removed. Battle Passes, KO Points, Champion Tokens, seasons, and events will be deleted. Ranked lobbies will also be disabled, consolidating matchmaking into casual lobbies. Voice chat will be added to private lobbies, and the maximum capacity will be increased to 40 players.
The final champion will be 'Samira, the Desert Rose', releasing in Patch 1.3.3 in October. Patch 1.3.3 will be the final major content update, and in December, Patch 1.3.5 will be released if necessary, containing only bug fixes without new content.
Esports will proceed with the remaining schedule for 2026 as planned. Riot Games stated that it will continue to support players and tournament organizers, including prize pools for all Major and Challenger events. The final competitive series tournament is scheduled for November. Organizers wishing to host tournaments after that can follow the community tournament guidelines.
'2XKO' is a 2v2 tag fighting game that was first revealed under the codename 'Project L' during the 'League of Legends' 10th Anniversary broadcast in 2019. Development was led by personnel from Radiant Entertainment, which was acquired by Riot Games in 2016. The game launched in PC Early Access on October 8, 2025, and entered Season 1 with its official console release on January 21. Just 19 days after launch, on February 9, approximately 80 development staff members were laid off. At the time, Riot Games stated that it would continue development with a downsized team.
At the end of the announcement, Riot Games stated, "We will continue to explore new genres and seek ways to bring players together," adding that the lessons learned from this experience will be reflected in future genres.
