On Jun. 9, in the 2023 LCK Summer Split, T1 defeated Hanwha Life Esports 2-1. It was their first match after MSI. Although they stumbled in the first game, T1 won games 2 and 3 to secure the victory. After the match, Choi “Zeus” Woo-je joined Inven for an interview.
How do you feel about winning the first match of the season?
Although we lost game 1, it’s a relief that we won games 2 and 3. However, there are some regrets.
What was regretful?
Personally, my Jax performance was regretful. I didn’t play the Jax vs. Sion matchup well enough — I believe I could have snowballed better. It’s hard to explain in words. I just felt uncomfortable.
You had a short break. How’s your condition?
It’s not that I’m tired or anything. And compared to MSI, as a top laner, nothing’s changed much.
What is your biggest takeaway from the MSI?
I felt a lot of things, but it’s hard to express myself. It was a good chance for me to improve in-game and out of the game as well.
What’s the biggest difference between the current meta and MSI’s meta?
I can play playmaking champions, fight-initiating champions, or a decent bruiser. The most important part right now is the bot lane. As for the top lane, it’s important to play the picks needed for the team well.
Some of the criticism toward you is that your performance drops in big matches. What do you think?
According to my experience, it’s not that I underperformed because it was a big match. I just need to improve more.
You’ll be facing Gen.G on Sunday. Many fans are looking forward to the clash.
It’s definitely an important match. The team that wins will gain momentum. It's going to mean more than just one win.
You’re already quite an experienced player now. What have you tried to do to improve yourself? Something out of the game?
I wasn’t consistent, but I tried cardio exercise and meditation. One of the most important parts of being a pro player is self-management. As a pro player, you sometimes have to do things you don’t like to do, so what’s most important to me is to manage myself well without being affected by others.
I’m rather introverted, so I try to go with what others say rather than insist on what I want, but recently, I realized that as a gamer, I sometimes need to insist. So recently, I give my opinion more frequently.
Any last comments?
There were many regrets in today’s match, but to get higher up, I’ll have to improve and do better. I’m always trying to improve more, so please watch and cheer for me.
