On Nov 22, the 2022 world champions DRX announced the free agency of all five starting players on their roster. Alongside the five players, their coaching staff, 'Mowgli-Ssong-Shine' have been announced as free agents as well.
There were multiple reports and rumors with regards to this roster, where DRX is hoping to keep their roster together for the 2023 season. According to such reports, it looks like bot laner Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu is looking to re-sign for the 2023 season, while top laner Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon and mid laner Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo was slated to re-sign as well, but backing out last minute to see their market value.
DRX’s run was nothing short of a miracle run. Having finished sixth place in the regular season of the 2022 LCK Summer split, many have predicted them to not even qualify for Worlds in the first place. However, from the regional qualifiers to various stages at Worlds, DRX has proved their doubters wrong by creating the biggest upsets that drew the fans in to believe in their Worlds run.
Via Twitter, DRX commented,
“DRX announces the contracts with Hwang 'Kingen' Sung-hoon, Hong 'Pyosik' Chang-hyun, Kim 'Zeka' Geon-woo, Kim 'Deft' Hyeok-gyu, Jo 'BeryL' Geon-hee have been expired.
DRX sincerely appreciates the five players being on the team’s most brilliant journey.
In order to continue the enjoyable challenge with these players, DRX will communicate with them to try to renew their contracts.
Thank you for being on the companion of 2022 DRX, and DRX promises to write an even more shining story with the best players next year.
#DRX”
