Legendary Brazilian Counter-Strike coach Wilton "zews" Prado yesterday posted to his social media that he had suffered and survived a heart attack. The former SK, Luminosity, Evil Geniuses and Liquid coach, aged 34, is currently living in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and retired from coaching following a recent spell with EG.

According to his post, the situation for zews was that "90% of an artery was obstructed" but he is recovering after having "had catheter and two angioplasties done". An angioplasty is a procedure to open blocked coronary arteries, used in emergency situations under sometimes partial anaesthetic, where the patient does not have to endure open heart surgery.

The replies to his tweet were full of well wishes from legends of CS:GO, with the likes of Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, Keith "NAF" Markovic, Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, and Marcelo "coldzera" David all sending their support, as well as team accounts and others from the world of esports journalism. This is to be expected, zews being one of the most storied and beloved coaches in both the North and South American scenes.

Today, zews is retired from CS:GO and working on a new web3 project, but he started his Counter-Strike career back in 2004, retiring in 2021. To put that tenure in context, G2 Esports' new star man Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov was born on May 1, 2005, meaning that, at the time of writing, the Brazilian has technically spent more time involved with CS:GO than G2’s star AWPer has spent on the planet.

Zews was long known and respect as a veteran player, but his high point in modern CS:GO came as a coach, in the form of back-to-back majors with the Brazilian core that played for Luminosity, and later SK Gaming. That team, which eventually ended up as MIBR before splitting apart, won both MLG Columbus and ESL One Cologne in 2016 with zews at the helm, a feat only two other teams have ever managed.
