The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community has been confused for a while now. Just a teenager, Edgar "Sparg0" Valdez is already considered second-best in the world. Yet the talented player wasn't signed to any team.
Many speculated on why Sparg0 was unsigned despite his high placements and victories at majors and prominent online tourneys alike. It seemed like Sparg0 may be waiting for the perfect organization — the perfect opportunity, contract. Because who wouldn't want to sign the Smash prodigy?
Some felt that Sparg0 was trying to join T1 to unite the best player in the world — his good friend and rival Leonardo "MKLeo" Pérez. But Sparg0 has just come forward with some breaking news, and it's not signing with T1. Before the top 8 matches at Genesis 8, the teenager shout out a quick tweet, real casual-like: "Joined FaZe Clan." You know, the usual stuff people tweet on a whim.
FaZe Clan is a huge organization with a focus on young content creators, which makes it seem like the fitting home for Sparg0, who is currently just 16 years old. This may mean that Sparg0 could branch out into content a bit more, which has long been the steadier source of income for Smash pros. This is also FaZe's first foray into the Smash franchise as an org primarily known for their FPS rosters, including CSGO, Call of Duty, VALORANT, PUBG, Rainbow 6, and Fortnite.
Sparg0 has been on a tear in 2022, winning a string of high-profile events, including Smash Summit 4 and Collision 2022. He ended up finishing third at GENESIS 8 behind Frenchman William "Glutonny" Belaid and chief rival MkLeo in his fifth podium this year.
