The Smash community is going to be given the chance to vote for which top player they want to see compete in Smash Ultimate Summit 4 starting tomorrow.
Beyond the Summit's highly anticipated Ultimate Summit 4 is coming on March 3. Like past Summits, there will be a handful of invited players as well as six spots for players who qualify through a crowdfunding and voting system.
Smash Ultimate Summit 3 took place last year on August 26 after a COVID-induced delay. The popular event invited Dabuz, KEN, Maister, MKLeo, Tweek, and Zackray. Gluttony had been invited but had issues due to traveling from Europe.
The Smash community could then vote on who from Canada, Mexico, and the US could take the last six spots. To be qualified, players had to be ranked on the PGRU Spring 2019, PGRU Fall 2019, and OrionRank 2020. They could also qualify by being a part of Smash Ultimate Summit 2 or another Beyond the Summit event. Fans eventually voted for Aaron, VoiD, Atomsk, Riddles, Kola, Charliedaking, and Cosmos.
Smash Ultimate Summit 3 had a prize pool that was over $156,000. This was the largest prize pool in Smash's entire history.
Smash fans are now speculating who will be invited this time around. Most people are confident that it will include Zackray, ProtoBanham, Glutonny, and Maister. Some are also hoping to see Tea take a spot.
Unsurprisingly, the Smash community is already pretty salty about the voting side, saying it's just a "popularity contest." This is most likely due to many people wanting to vote in Peanut since he excels with a low-tier character. But many see him as a "meme" pick instead of voting for a Smash player ranked higher than him.
More information will be revealed tomorrow, February 3.
