The Italian senate got an unexpected surprise earlier this week, after a Zoom meeting was "zoombombed," with an unauthorized user entering their meeting and showing an NSFW Final Fantasy hentai video to one of the highest governing bodies in Italy.
The video was of FFVII character Tifa Lockhart and prompted an immediate, startled, and angry response from Italian senators on the call, who could be heard decrying the inappropriate video in the original clip. The user was quickly removed and Senator Mario Laura Montovai reported the incident to the Italian postal police, according to the report from ANSA.
As reported by ANSA, the video interjected into a meeting called "Towards a Transparent Civil Service" which featured, among other people, Nobel prize-winning Physicist Giorgio Parisi. While the VOD is no longer available through the Italian senate, for obvious reasons, Twitter user Ductor Naldush posted censored screenshots of the incident, showing 113 people were watching the call.
The incident points to the challenges faced during the pandemic by those trying to conduct official, public business via applications like Zoom. Unwanted hijacking of teleconferencing applications has been reported at all levels over the past couple years, from people entering Zoom classrooms without permission, to now a user hijacking official government business with Final Fantasy pornography.
The practice of "Zoombombing" is illegal under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in the US, with similar regulations in place in other countries like Italy.
