Juan "Hungrybox" DeBiedma took to Twitter to tell fans some unfortunate news as COVID continues to run rampant through the Super Smash Bros. community. 

Hungrybox said that his mother and grandmother both tested positive for COVID-19. Since he spent time with them throughout the holidays, Hungrybox added that he probably has COVID as well. The Melee God added that his family is "boosted" so the symptoms have been mild so far. 

Still, this means Hungrybox may not be able to attend in-person tournaments that are quickly approaching this month. 

Hungrybox tweeted that he will be focused on content for now. Fans are largely relieved to hear that he is not experiencing any rough symptoms and some even added that people are being too paranoid about the new variant if they got their vaccination already.

But Hungrybox appears to believe that Omnicron may be a big issue, especially with in-person events returning. The Jiggly main tweeted that another WiFi era may be returning due to how fast the new variant is spreading. 

After the Smash World Tour Championship, which took place in Orlando, FL (where Hungrybox lives), many pro players reported that they had tested positive for COVID. The Smash community pondered if there should be more in-person events after the breakout at SWT, with some saying that WiFi events should return. Some said that protocols should just be properly enforced, meaning masks and vaccinations required to attend.
