FunPlus Phoenix have added another weapon to their arsenal ahead of the 2022 LPL season. Former Gen.G jungler Kim "Clid" Tae-min has signed with FPX after leaving his previous organization in November 2021.
The off-season has been a turbulent one for FunPlus Phoenix. After a shockingly disappointing exit from the 2021 League of Legends World Championship, four of the five FPX starters left the organization. Top laner Jang "Nuguri" Ha-gwon announced he would be taking a break from competitive play. Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang became the new starting jungler for Top Esports.
Superstar mid laner Kim "Doinb" Tae-sang went to FunPlus Phoenix, and support Liu "Crisp" Qing-Song signed on as part of the superteam built around legendary AD carry Jian "Uzi" Zi-Hao, who recently returned to competitive play following health progress, by Bilibili Gaming for the 2022 LPL season.
Despite only retaining one starter from 2021 in AD carry Lin "Lwx" Wei-Xiang, FunPlus Phoenix put on an impressive performance at the 2021 Demacia Cup, reaching the finals before falling short of the trophy against Top Esports.
In addition to Lwx, AD carry Luo "jiang" Bai-Jiang and top laner Ping "xiaolaohu" Xiao-Hu are contracted through November 22, 2022, and jungler Yang "Beichuan" Ling's contract is through November 21, 2023. Support Fu "Hang" Ming-Hang and mid laner Kim "Gori" Tae-woo, the latter of whom was named the 2021 LCK Summer Split Player of the Split after his great performance on Nongshim RedForce, were signed last month, but like Clid, their contract lengths are unknown.
Clid was born and raised in South Korea, but actually started his career in China back in 2016. It wasn't until the 2019 season that Clid competed in the LCK as the starting jungler for T1 (known at the time as SK Telecom T1) before starting for Gen.G for the last two seasons.
