On April 15th KST, KT Rolster shut down Samsung Galaxy with a 3-0 sweep in the 2017 LCK Spring semifinals Playoffs, held at Sangam OGN eStadium. KT will be facing off against SKT T1 in the upcoming grand finals on April 22th.
Below is the post-match press interview with the team’s captain, Dong-bin “Score” Ko
How does it feel to advance to the grand finals?
It feels great to advance to spring finals for the first time. I hope fans are happy as well.
Have you expected a 3-0 sweep today?
Mata and I came into the series, thinking today would be a 3-0 victory. The root cause of our loss against Samsung in the second round-robin was our own mistakes. Since we addressed those issues, I thought we would win regardless of their form.
People expected to see a neck-and-neck matchup between you and Haru because Haru’s recent form has been outstanding.
Samsung tends to play aggressively after giving a lot of CS to the jungler. I believe my team can carry as long as I take the vision control, so I wasn’t hell-bent on CS and focused on taking care of the team instead.
KT has been quite formidable in teamfights since the post-season. What changed?
We put a lot of effort in trying to address our obvious weaknesses. Among many things, that effort ultimately came down to improving team play. Our hard work has been paying off in the match against MVP as well as today.
Was focusing on the top lane with Smeb a prepared strategy?
I guess it naturally happened. Since the bot lane was comfortably winning, we had more legroom to meddle in the top lane.
You’ll be up against SKT Peanut and Blank. How do you feel about the jungle matchups without taking account of the team dynamic?
I’m confident enough to do well against either. Junglers are team-dependent [laughs] You’ll just have to wait and see who comes out on top.
In the second round-robin match against SKT, KT seemed to run out of steam during the late game. How do you think the matchup between the two teams will pan out this time?
It’ll be as close as it was in the regular season. We’ve worked to reduce those instances in the late game, so expect the finals to be a lot different.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I understand that some fans were disappointed with our showings in the second round-robin even though we were one of the favorites in the season. We’ll show you everything we got in the finals, so I hope you cheer us on. I promise to make an interesting series.
