On Nov 20, Afreeca Freecs announced four of the members joining their League of Legends roster for 2022. Consisting of bot laner Park “Teddy” Jin-sung, jungler Choi “Ellim” El-lim, mid laner Yu “FATE” Su-hyeok, and support Ryu “Hoit” Ho-sung, AF went through a complete revamp on their roster, with the exception of their top laner, Kim “Kiin” Ki-in.
Three of the four newly joined members are all former T1 members; two of whom have actively played on their starting roster. Teddy and Ellim have all played throughout the season; Ellim stayed on the bench after T1 stopped experimenting with their 10-man roster, while Teddy continued to play throughout most of the season. On the other hand, Hoit was a part of T1 Challengers as their starting support player; he’s had a successful Spring split, but a poor one in the Summer.
FATE is the only new member to not be coming from T1. As Liiv SANDBOX’s starting mid laner in 2021, he’s helped lead the team to success during the regular split in the Summer. However, they quickly lost in the Summer playoffs, eventually failing to make it to Worlds.
Until there’s further announcement from the organization, AF’s roster looks to be Kiin-Ellim-FATE-Teddy-Hoit. WIth fresh faces in the team, it’ll be interesting to watch if AF will be able to break their image as the ‘Gatekeepers of the LCK’.
