Sentinels have named Shane "Rawkus" Flaherty to be their head coach as they head to VALORANT Champions in December. This also means Rawkus is no longer a member of FaZe Clan's VALORANT roster.
This will be Rawkus' first role as a head coach for a major esports organization. He previously competed as an inaugural member of the FaZe VALORANT roster, and before that he served as a DPS player in the Overwatch League for Houston Outlaws and multiple US national teams. He was part of the U.S. national Overwatch team that won the Overwatch World Cup in 2019.
Sentinels teased that they were looking for a coach for several days before the announcement of Rawkus.
The team has seen great success in the NA scene without a coach, winning the Iceland Major earlier this year. However, they struggled at the most recent Berlin major, ultimately being eliminated by fellow NA competitor Team Envy in the quarterfinals. Perhaps having Rawkus in the head coach as some added "brainpower" can help push Sentinels back to the top.
VALORANT Champions 2021 will take place in Berlin and starts on Dec. 1st, running through Dec. 12th. One team will emerge as the first even VCT Champion.
