[Guide] Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion best raid counters, moves, and skillsets in Pokemon GO

Source: Niantic

Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion are three legendary Pokemon from the 5th generation. Together, they form “Swords of Justice”, based on the Three Musketeers. Cobalion represents Athos, Terrakion represents Porthos, and Virizion represents Aramis. All three Pokemon have Fighting-type as their secondary type.

Raid Counters

Cobalion is the presumed leader of the three. Its max CP is 3,022 at Lv.40, and 3,417 at Lv. 50. As a Steel and Fighting-type pokemon, it’s resistant to many different types — Cobalion takes less damage from Bug, Poison, Rock, Dark, Dragon, Grass, Ice, Normal, and Steel moves. To penetrate its bulky defense, recommended types are Fighting, Fire, and Ground.

Terrakion is almost the exact opposite of Cobalion. Its max CP at Lv.40 is 3,698, and at Lv. 50, it’s 4,181. As a Fighting and Rock-type Pokemon, Terrakion is vulnerable to seven different types. Its weaknesses are Fairy, Fighting, Grass, Ground, Psychic, Steel, and Water. This means just about any good PVE Pokemon will work on Terrakion.

Virizion similar to Cobalion, but it lacks bulkiness. Its max CP is 3,022 at Lv.40, and 3,417 at Lv. 50. Virizion is a Grass and Fighting-type Pokemon, and reveals double weakness against Flying-type Pokemon. It’s also weak to Fairy, Fire, Ice, Poison, and Psychic — the raid difficulty should be the easiest among the three.

Best Movesets

Cobalion is a Fighting-type Pokemon who unfortunately doesn’t have a Fighting-type fast move. Its bulkiness is decent, but its damage is rather disappointing. The fast moves Cobalion can learn are Metal Claw (Steel) and Zen Headbutt (Psychic), so it can at least benefit from the same type attack bonus (STAB) with Metal Claw.

The available charged moves for Cobalion are Stone Edge (Rock), Iron Head (Steel), Close Combat (Fighting), and Sacred Sword (Fighting, Elite TM). If you’re willing to use an Elite TM on Cobalion, Sacred Sword is the best choice. Otherwise, it’ll be best to use Iron Head and use it as a Steel-type attacker.

Terrakion is a decent Rock and Fighting-type attacker, but it’s not the best. There are several Pokemon that have better moves. The given fast moves for Terrakion are Zen Headbutt and Smack Down (Rock). Obviously, Smack Down is the better choice to benefit from STAB. For the charged moves, Terrakion can learn Earthquake (Ground), Rock Slide (Rock), and Close Combat. The best choice would be Rock Slide.

Virizion is the saddest among the three, as it wasn’t blessed with any proper skillsets. The fast moves it can learn are Quick Attack (Normal), and Zen Headbutt. For the charged moves, there are: Stone Edge, Leaf Blade (Grass), and Close Combat. There isn’t much to choose from — the best choices would be pairing Quick Attack and Leaf Blade

Raids are continuing with more and more interesting Pokemon to catch! The shiny versions of Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion are also available this time. Keep trying to catch’em all!
