UPDATED 10/28: Team Liquid is reportedly looking to sign Bjergsen for the 2022 LCS season, which would mean current mid laner Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen would roleswap to AD carry, leaving the future of current TL AD carry Edward "Tactical" Ra unknown should the report be true.
Original story:
Soren "Bjergsen" Bjerg will not play for TSM in the coming season, CEO Andy "Reginald" Dinh and General Manager Parth Naidu confirmed Thursday. The storied mid laner and one of LCS' best has chosen to return to active play with another team, TSM leadership said.
"On Oct. 1, we made a highly competitive offer to Bjergsen to play with us, along with a solid plan about what the rest of the roster around him would look like," Naidu said. "We were notified today that Bjergsen is choosing to decline our offer and pursuing a project with a different team."
Where Bjergsen lands is likely to be among the highlights of the offseason. First reports of the mid laner's desire to return to active play surfaced in September, hinting an end to his short coaching stint with TSM — a project that amounted to very little in the 2021 season, namely a fourth-place finish in LCS Summer Playoffs and a narrow miss of a Worlds spot.
"He will always be a part of TSM history and his legacy will be the foundation of our future", Naidu added.
One thing Bjergsen and TSM will have to figure out before the mid laner signs elsewhere — in order to avoid a conflict of interest — is the transfer of his ownership stake in the org, which he acquired in 2019 as part of his contract negotiation.
Bjergsen's career in the LCS stretches back to 2013 and boasts six domestic titles. Internationally, however, the mid laner has notoriously underperformed, a top 8 at Worlds 2014 being his highest accomplishment.
