Making up for yesterday’s loss, LNG Esports defeated Team Liquid without much trouble on day 2 of the 2021 LoL World Championship, building up a snowball of a lead and shutting out the LCS #2 seed. After the match, LNG jungler Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong joined Inven Global for a chat.

It’s been a long time since we spoke. How have you been? It should be your first time in Iceland. How is it?

[Laughs] I’m healthy and well, thanks. I heard people saw auroras yesterday. I regret missing it.

How was your year in the LPL?

In the spring, it was hard to adapt to the environment. Starting from the summer, I was alright, and as I tried to build synergy with the team, time flew by so fast. It feels that I just blinked and I’m here now, at Worlds.

How about the language barrier?

It would be awesome if I could speak well in my daily life, but I’m not there yet. I can just communicate with my teammates in the game. They understand even if what I say doesn’t really make sense.

You’re 1-1 after today. How was the feedback after yesterday’s loss?

We didn’t fight as much as I expected. The game went different from scrims, and we kept falling behind.

It seems that the meta shifted a bit from the Play-ins to the Group Stage. How is it different?

There are so many champions that can appear in the meta, and champions you don’t usually see. For example, top Graves is a thing now. When I see him being played often, it seems good. There are several champions like that, and Yuumi is one of them as well.

All teams in Group D are tied 1-1. Some people are starting to say Group D is the real group of death.

As you saw today, any team can beat any team in group D.

Many people rate you as one of the best junglers in this tournament. Do you agree?

[Laughs] For now, I’m not sure. If the meta was the same as before Worlds, I would have proudly said that I’m around the top, but I’m still adapting to the meta. It seems that the strength of junglers has been weakened a bit, so I don’t know.

Which team looks the strongest based on scrims?

All teams are probably similar in scrims right now. We hear rumors, but our win rate is about even, so I think there isn’t that much of a difference between teams here. There are a few stronger teams, but it isn’t that they’re extremely strong. Since scrims are different from official games, I don’t mind too much.

Which region do you think is the strongest?

Right now, I think the LCK is the strongest, but all leagues seem stronger than ‘19 and ‘20.

One of the hottest topics at this Worlds is LCK mid vs. LPL mid, who’s stronger? As a jungler that knows both leagues quite well, what do you think?

They all have their pros and cons. They vary by player, so I don’t know what to say. I don’t think I could say one side is stronger.

Elyoya said he’s looking forward to playing against you. How do you think it’ll go tomorrow?

I’m not sure. Group D is the real group of death, I don’t know how it’ll go. All I can do is prepare what we have. Any team can win or lose in this group.

There are still a lot of fans that miss Griffin. Chovy and Viper are here with you at this Worlds. Don’t you want to play against them? You’d have to make it through groups to have a chance.

Obviously, it’ll be good if we were to meet. I want to meet them, but what’s more important is winning and getting through groups myself. [Laughs] I need to survive, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be fun and interesting if we were to meet.
