On Oct. 12, T1 defeated DetonatioN FocusMe in their first match of the 2021 LoL World Championship. In a dominating victory that took less than 20 minutes and had a 10K lead at the 15-minute mark, it wrapped up LCK’s flawless 4-0 start to the group stage (DK 1:0 FPX; HLE 1:0 FNC; GEN 1:0 LNG; T1 1:0 DFM).
After the win, T1 mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok joined the LCK broadcast for a post-match interview.
In your first match at Worlds, T1 shut out DFM in just under 20 minutes. Did you expect such a dominating victory?
I really didn’t expect it to be this one-sided, because it was our first match at Worlds as the new T1. We just told ourselves to play like we always do and things turned out well.
Canna and Gumayusi just played their first match at Worlds. Did you give them any advice?
Although it was their first Worlds match, the experience they got from playing in the LCK helped them get used to things very quickly. I didn’t need to give them any advice.
How much of T1’s performance tonight reflects that of the team’s scrim performance?
Honestly, there really wasn’t much to see in this match, so I’d say that we played just as we did in practice. We’re always full of confidence, so I think that everybody can expect a great performance from us in our next match.
With T1’s victory, LCK remains undefeated in the group stages. What are your thoughts on the other LCK teams’ matches?
Everyone was playing better than I expected; their games were very short. I knew that the LCK was good, and I’m proud that it showed tonight.
For you, this is your sixth Worlds appearance. What’s your mindset this year?
While I have made it to Worlds many times — and even won a couple — the fact remains that I performed poorly this year. I’m focused on producing great results this year, and will work very hard to do so.
Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say to the fans?
We’ll make sure to prepare well for our remaining matches to get out of groups and go as far as we can into the tournament. Please continue to cheer for us.
