DetonatioN FocusMe has made League of Legends esports history by becoming the first League of Legends Japan League team to qualify for the main event of the World Championship. DFM finished tied for 1st place in Group B of the Worlds 2021 Play-in and triumphed over North American #3 representative Cloud9 from the League Championship Series to auto-qualify for the group stage.

DetonatioN FocusMe was thought to have a chance at escaping Group B in the Play-in alongside Cloud9, but that was only assuming it would be able to defeat Turkish Championship League representative Galatasary Esports, League of Legends Continental League representative Unicorns of Love, and Pacific Championship Series #2 seed Beyond Gaming. However, with UOL struggling and BYG stumbling, DFM quickly established itself as the second strongest team in the group.

DFM won all of its matches except the one against Cloud9, and all C9 had to do for a perfect run through Group B was defeat, and eliminate, the last place Unicorns of Love. Instead, UOL held on long enough to defeat C9, which forced a tiebereaker for 1st place between C9 and DFM.

After Unicorns of Love lost the 4th place tiebreaker to Beyond Gaming, C9 took on DFM in a bloody, back-and-forth early game in which C9's main foothold was the stacking of dragons early on in the game.  As time went on, however, DFM continued to out-skirmish and out-teamfight well into the late game, and after taking the Elder Dragon C9 was so desperate to secure for a comeback victory, DFM wasted no time wiping the LCS darlings off of Summoner's Rift.

DFM is the second team to qualify for the main event at Worlds 2021 via the Play-in. Earlier today, LNG Esports, the #4 seed from China's League of Legends Professional League, finished a perfect 4-0 round-robin to secure 1st place in Group A and automatically qualify for Group D on the main stage.
