Guess what?
The team at Super Smash Bros. Ultimate doesn't care what you want. Smash players are constantly trying to find patterns, create petitions, and send letters to Nintendo begging for their favorite video game characters to become a DLC fighter. But the patterns are always wrong. The petitions are ignored.
And every time Sakurai reveals the next Smash fighter they are usually people didn't expect and weren't consistently yelled about online. Kazuya is the latest example. Despite being a popular Tekken fighter, this was not a character many people were expecting to see.
Now, there's only one DLC character left. Forever. Well, allegedly. And Sakurai has decided to make it clear that this last fighter won't be a fan-favorite that's been posted about daily for the past year.
After explaining Kazuya's (OP) moveset, Sakurai shared some of the newest Mii characters. And it was perhaps the part that stole all the thunder from the first 30 minutes about Kazuya's crazy combos and countless moves. Instead, most people immediately started posting about their dreams being ruined when Dante was announced as a Mii character.
In the past, characters given a Mii costume in Ultimate never arrive as part of the main roster. So if that pattern continues, Dante, Shantae, Lloyd, and Dovahkiin will not be the last DLC fighter. These were some of the most requested and theorized characters for the final slot, especially Devil May Cry's Dante.
And Sakurai basically shrugged and said "oh well" after destroying the dreams of so many Smash players.
But are you surprised? This is the same man — the same team — that gave us Piranha Plant, Terry, Minecraft Steve, and Min Min. While some of these characters have become high tier or popular to play with, they were definitely not fighters that people were demanding be on the roster.
So who is the last Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter?
As revealed previously, Sakurai recently wrote in a blog that there will be no more fighter passes. And there's only one more slot in the current one after Kazuya's reveal. So who will take the last remaining slot, possibly of all time?
Nintendo is notoriously tight-lipped about their Smash DLC. There are usually no leaks, despite what someone's brother's friend's uncle's girlfriend's dog's breeder's grandmother's doctor's son (who works at Nintendo) has spilled on Reddit.
But if we want to use educated guesses, it's probably not Crash Bandicoot, Sora, or Master Chief. These characters are discussed constantly and have been seen as the front runners for a spot in Smash for a while now. While Nintendo might want to go out with a bang and give people some fan service, the pattern DLC reveals would suggest that it won't be these super obvious requests.
If it were up to me, I'd love Smash to go back to basics with its final DLC slot and give us a Nintendo fighter. Waddle Dee, King Boo, and Captain Toad would be my top three. But we all know that Sakurai wants to do the unexpected. So think of a popular video game character nobody has mentioned even once and that' probably your best bet.
