A brand new season of Warzone is here. Season 2 brought new weapons and balance changes to the game, as well as some sweeping adjustments to the Cold War weapon attachments. These changes have caused some shifts in the meta.
Many of the assault rifles that dominated in Season 1 continue to be good but there are also some newcomers in the high tiers like the FARA-85 and the AUG. To help you navigate the Season 2 meta, we made a tier list where we ranked every assault rifle in Warzone Season 2!
Tier S

M4A1
A year after the release of Warzone, the M4A1 remains at the top of the Warzone meta. This gun is reliable and effective at short, medium, and longer ranges. It has a fast time to kill and an easy-to-control recoil pattern. It’s the whole package for anyone looking for a versatile assault rifle, and its dominance isn’t going anywhere.
FFAR
The FFAR has maintained its spot at the top of the close-range AR meta. While the FFAR has a lot of recoil, if you can control that recoil it is one of the fastest killing weapons in the game. If you are looking for an AR that can absolutely shred up close and don’t mind unwieldy weapons, look no further than the FFAR.
Grau 5.56
The Grau 5.56 is one of the best long-range fully-automatic assault rifles for those who are looking for a long-range alternative to burst fire weapons. The Grau features very low first shot recoil, a fast reload and is capable of dealing solid damage at range. There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles on this weapon, it’s just a reliable rifle that does its job well.
FAL
The FAL is also a great long-range weapon, especially for players who like high damage model weapons. The FAL can drop an opponent in only 3 or 4 bullets in Warzone. So if you can master this gun’s high recoil, you can deal some serious damage with the FAL.

M13
The M13 very nearly made it into the S-tier in place of the Grau 5.56. The only thing that keeps it out of S-tier really, is that its strengths are too redundant with the M4A1, a weapon that will outperform it in most situations. That said, the M13 is a versatile weapon that excels in mid-range confrontations, and is a solid choice for players who enjoy medium-range combat.
FARA 83
After releasing with the new season, the FARA 83 immediately forwarded itself as a strong weapon in Warzone. The gun is tied with the AK-47 for the highest time-to-kill assault rifle at shorter ranges. The biggest drawback to the FARA 83 is its significant side-to-side recoil, but with a few attachments to reign in the recoil, you can consistently win Warzone gunfights with this weapon.
XM4
The XM4 remains a viable option in Warzone in Season 2. This gun excels in the same areas as the FARA 83, but has slightly less recoil and deals slightly less damage. If you are looking for a versatile weapon that will be useful at all ranges but don’t want to deal with the FARA 83’s horizontal recoil, the XM4 is a strong alternative.
CR-56 AMAX (Galil)
The CR-56 AMAX, otherwise known as the Galil, is an excellent heavy-duty rifle that features a large amount of recoil. If you can hit your shots with this weapon, it can deal a large amount of damage very quickly. If you like high recoil, high damage weapons like the AK-47, the Galil might be an enjoyable weapon for you to use, and it can hold its own against most other ARs in the game.
Kilo 141
The Kilo 141 was nerfed at the start of Warzone Season 1 back in December, so it is not the S-tier beast that it once was. But this weapon can still win gunfights consistently. The Kilo is best used at longer ranges, due to its high damage at range potential and its reliable accuracy. If you do run this weapon, consider putting a magnifying scope on it to maximize its usefulness against snipers and burst rifles at range.

AK-47 (Cold War)
While the AK-47 is a great weapon in Cold War multiplayer, its effectiveness doesn’t quite translate over to the warzone. The high recoil and visual bounce of this weapon can make it hard to use track targets at longer ranges, where many Warzone fights end up happening. If you are going to carry a slower fire rate AR, consider the M13 instead, since it is much better at sustaining damage on an enemy. But if you love the AK-47 specifically, it is a viable option for those who have mastered its recoil pattern
AN-94
On paper, the AN-94 is a solid rifle with a fast time-to-kill. However, it can’t keep up with guns like the Galil or the FAL at range, and it is basically useless in close-quarters combat. While the AN-94 shreds in the main game due to its high initial damage, it is much less effective in Warzone where most players have over 200 health. The AN-94 is usable, sure, but it's not the best in the game.
Krig 6
The Krig 6 is a good, but not great, assault rifle. It performs well at medium ranges and can even be outfitted for longer range duels. It is a great gun for beginners since it has a low level of recoil that is very easy to control. It won’t outperform A-tier or S-tier guns in a straight duel, but it's a fun weapon that is definitely viable in many situations.
RAM-7
The RAM-7 may not be your number one choice in Warzone, but it is a pretty good weapon nonetheless. This gun works best in similar ranges to the FFAR. But It has a much more controllable recoil pattern than the FFAR, which can make it easier to land shots and take out multiple targets without reloading.
Tier C
- FN Scar 17
- Groza
- AS VAL
FN Scar 17
The FN Scar 17 has very little going for it in Warzone. While the Scar has been one of the most popular weapons in the Call of Duty franchise throughout the years, the Warzone Scar is just not good. It consistently loses duels at longer ranges, its fire rate leaves much to be desired, and its magazine size is disappointingly small. While it’s better than a pistol, or nothing, it is not a top rifle option.
Groza
Like many of the guns on this list, the Groza was added with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but the gun has never found a strong place in the Warzone meta. While this rifle is definitely capable of winning some engagements at close and medium ranges, it won’t do so reliably because of its difficult-to-control recoil pattern and mediocre damage stats.
AS VAL
The AS VAL is a shorter-range assault rifle with a high fire rate and a built-in suppressor. This unique weapon is most effective in close ranges and can be pretty fun to use. Unfortunately, the FARA 85 and the FFAR outperform the AS VAL at its only effective range while also being effective at medium ranges as well. So you should probably try out one of those options instead of the AS VAL.
Tier D
- QBZ-83

QBZ-83
The QBZ-83 is a Tier D rifle because there are other rifles that do everything it can do, but better. Most of its stats are similar to the Krig, but the QBZ-83 features horizontal recoil instead of vertical recoil. As a result, it is more difficult to control the recoil and track targets than with the Krig, XM4, or M4A1.
FR 5.56
The FR 5.56 is a burst rifle with a low time-to-kill and a difficult-to-control recoil pattern. As a result, it’s not a good option in Warzone, especially when the M16 and the AUG are already dominating the burst rifle meta. There is no reason to select this gun based on its stats or performance.
Oden
The Oden can be a powerful weapon in the hands of a skilled player, but it is not a very reliable gun. It is capable of very fast kills, but if you miss any shots then you are in deep trouble with this rifle, since its low rate of fire is already at a disadvantage against faster firing rifles. Unless you are an experienced player who prefers a low rate of fire gun, I would skip this one.
