The Smash DLC is so close I can already see all of the YouTubers screaming. I can already see the Smash characters staring into the darkness, looking completely shocked to see whoever #79 is. I can already see Sakurai behind his desk, smiling that he's tricked us all and then randomly playing on two controllers.
Nintendo is hosting a 50-minute live stream today that will showcase "the first half of 2021" for the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Direct is happening today, February 17th, at 2 PM PST (5 PM EST).
Nintendo hasn't really told us what to expect aside from some "information on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" and "games coming to the Switch." But we don't even know if that information is, in fact, the DLC. It might not be about the Fighter Pass at all.
But if it is, Reddit users are speculating that it might be Waluigi. After being left out of the "they're all here" hype, it's possible that Waluigi is finally being given his time to shine now that fans aren't discussing his absence as often. A Reddit user found that Nintendo had made a random update to www.waluigi.com earlier today, which means there might be something planned for the Nintendo Direct.
When it comes to Nintendo Switch games, we have a few ideas. While Nintendo has been pretty quiet as of late, we are expecting to get some news about the new Pokemon Snap, which is coming April 30. Kirby is another franchise that's been rumored to have a new game in 2021. Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4 might make an appearance.
At 50 minutes, there's bound to be at least a couple of crazy reveals. And it might not be a game at all. It might be a new Switch console with more capabilities, including 4K compatibility.
The Nintendo Direct can be watched on Nintendo's Twitch channel or official website. You can also watch it right here:
