On Jan. 5, Team Griffin announced via Twitter that their League of Legends roster has officially disbanded.

Team Griffin saw a rise in popularity when Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho elevated the level of the 7th place Challengers Korea team in 2017. After they entered the LCK in 2018, they gathered more popularity as the super rookie team that completely took over the league. 

In their first three splits in the LCK, Griffin made all three playoffs grand finals but came short every time. Nevertheless, the rapid rise of the young team attracted a huge fanbase and the eyes of the fans were on them as they prepared for their Worlds debut in 2019.

Around that time, a string of controversies plagued the team, however, which began with the departure of head coach cvMax among allegations of physical assault, the trials for which are still ongoing. Without their head coach, Griffin only made it to the quarterfinals of Worlds and returned to Korea for what would be a disastrous 2020.

The 2020 Spring Split ended with 10th place and relegation for Griffin — a relegation they couldn't recover from. After dropping to Challengers Korea, failing to climb back up, and being unsuccessful in securing LCK franchising spot, the dissolution of the team was considered a matter of time. Apart from cvMax, a lot of their key players had left too, including star mid laner Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon and promising jungler Lee "Tarzan" Seung-yong
