[KeSPA Cup] DWG Ghost: "I actually got close to (Khan) by fighting with him a lot in solo queue, so we’ve become better buddies when he joined."

On day 1 of the 2020 KeSPA Cup Ulsan, DAMWON Gaming started off their tournament run with two wins under their pocket, defeating Nongshim RedForce and DRX respectively. The bot laner for DWG, Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun, had an explosive start to the tournament with a quadra kill on Samira, and was able to deal damage by getting into skirmishes at the right timings. He did not seem to be affected by the shift in the meta that came with the preseason, and proved why he’s a world champion.

After his victories, Ghost joined Inven for a post-match interview to share his thoughts about today’s matches.

How does it feel to kick off the KeSPA Cup with two match victories under your belt?

Today’s the first time playing in an official match after the World Championship, so I’m glad that it’s starting off on a positive note.

How did you spend your time after winning Worlds?

After I returned to Korea, I was exhausted, so I just relaxed for a bit, then started practicing again for the upcoming season.

There’s a new face on DWG. What was your first impression of Kim “Khan” Dong-ha?

He’s a very talkative guy, so he definitely left a great impression on me. He’s a very friendly guy, and back in the day, I actually got close to him by fighting with him a lot in solo queue, so we’ve become better buddies when he joined.

You played Samira in your first match. She’s actually been nerfed a lot over the last couple of matches, so how do you rate her?

Depending on how you play her, she’s a good champion. Just like today, if she gets angles to go in and deal damage, she’s very explosive.

While utility marksman champions were meta in the past, you played carry champions today. Has there been a shift in the marksman meta?

The marksman meta definitely shifted towards carry champions, rather than utility.

Which meta do you think suits you the best?

I don’t think a particular meta suits me more than others. I’ll make sure to play with confidence, no matter what the meta may be.

At the recent All-Stars event, your bot lane partner, Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee, played Aatrox support. Are you prepared for his eccentric picks in official matches?

Before and after All-Stars, he’s been preparing quite a lot of weird picks. Our head coach and I are trying our best to not make him play such weird picks, but I think there will come a time when we’ll have to let him.

The word is that you joke around a lot with the other players, with these ‘old man jokes’ as your main arsenal. Who is the best player to joke around with?

It has to be our mid laner, Heo “ShowMaker” Su. His reactions are great. However, I think that I joke around a lot more with Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu. He doesn’t react at all, so it inspires me to joke around a lot more.

Your next opponents are your former team, Liiv SANDBOX. Can you share your resolutions for the match?

Except for the top laner, Park “Summit” Woo-tae, everyone else is new, so it’s a whole different team. I’ll make sure to dictate the flow of the game perfectly, just like how it was today.
