After experiencing multiple visa issues en route to Shanghai, PSG Talon was required to fill three positions with substitutes for their Play-In Stage games. However, they were not deterred, finishing first in their group after winning a tiebreaker game against Unicorns of Love to qualify for the Group Stage next week.
Su "Hanabi" Chia-Hsiang was one of the two original PSG members that was able to play at the start of the tourney and held it down in the top lane. He hails from Flash Wolves, like so many others at the tournament, and even already played against and defeated his old teammate, Lee "Bugi" Seong-yeop, the jungler for V3 Esports.
Listen to Hanabi speak with Inven Global's Parkes Ousley here, or read the transcript below.
You changed three members on the team coming into Worlds and you finally got your AD carry back today. But is there anything you want to say to your former temporary teammates?
They really helped us a lot, so thanks to them very much. We really appreciate it.
How was it playing against Bugi, your former teammate back on Flash Wolves?
I provided some suggestions to my coach. I know a lot of his compositions and how to fight with him and how to track him through the entire game.
That's super helpful! You used to play in the LMS, but of course, that became the PCS when the regions combined. How is it in the PCS, and do you miss anything about the LMS?
For the original LMS, we only had 8 teams, but for the new PCS, we have more teams. So it's a bit more challenging and interesting to have many new teams in the region.
With all the extra teams, do you feel like the competition got harder? Is it just because there are more people you have to prepare for? How is it more challenging?
For my first year, I was on Flash Wolves, but we didn't do well at Worlds. But at this time, in the new region, I'm trying to learn more and improve myself, and I will try my best to do well in this Worlds.
I feel like you have a lot of fans. You haven't been playing too long, but you keep making it to all the international competitions. But do you miss playing on Flash Wolves? Do you miss the beginning of your career?
So I do indeed miss Flash Wolves, but we should focus on the recent times and focus on the future.
There are so many Flash Wolves players at this tournament, but only a few that you've played with. Would it be your hope to make it out of Groups and then meet Hu "SwordArt" Shuo-Chieh on Suning?
Indeed I'm really planning and excited to meet Top Esports in the Knockout Stage and I hope we can defeat them in the Knockout Stage.
When people looked at PSG Talon coming into Worlds, fans were sad because there were substitutes and people didn't expect you to make it to Groups. But you did make it, you secured first seed. What do you have to say to the fans who believed in you? And anything you want to say about the strength of your team going forward?
We are sure that we can successfully enter the Group Stage and we will try our best to eliminate our mistakes in the game and we will try our best to improve ourselves and behave much better in the Group Stage.
