On the 26th (KST), T1 took on APK Prince in Round 2 of the 2020 LCK Spring. With a set score of 2-0, T1 took down APK to take their first victory of Round 2. There was a game breaking bug that delayed Game 2 for over an hour, but despite such a long pause, T1 was able to secure a victory and continued their climb to the top of the LCK standings.
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok joined Inven Global and shared his thoughts on tonight’s victory against APK Prince.
Congratulations on your first victory of Round 2. How do you feel?
I’m glad that we won our first match of Round 2. We lost the last match in Round 1, so tonight’s victory was that much more precious.
As you mentioned, tonight’s victory held great meaning. Although APK is near the bottom of the standings, were you nervous at all?
Even if tonight’s opponent was any other team, I was worried because the match was held online. However, we won, so I’m happy with the results.
You’ll be playing out your matches in an online format for a while, and it seems that other players have different opinions on the format. How does it feel for you, who’s even used to playing in huge arenas?
It definitely feels awkward. However, it doesn’t really have a huge impact inside the game. Also, we’re all wearing uniforms because of the interview or for our video content.
Ellim, T1’s rookie jungler that made his debut today, received a lot of attention tonight. As the captain of T1, can you briefly introduce Ellim to the fans?
He’s a very aggressive jungler, and when it comes to our teamplay, both Cuzz and Ellim offer different, but positive traits to the team.
The donation that you recently made is also a trending topic that’s being talked about. Your name is even in the donation hall of fame in the Gangseo-gu office. Did you always make donations behind the scenes?
Truth be told, after talking with my dad, I’ve been donating here and there for a long time. I can’t remember when, where and how much I’ve donated so far though.
Alongside your personal donations, T1 did their donation streams. You said, “People with a lot of money like me can make donations”, and that was very memorable. What does donating mean to you?
Although I said that on stream, I just meant that as a joke. I believe that people have different reasons for donating. To me, although I donate my money with the intent of ‘sharing my money’, I also find joy in the concept of sharing as well. I also feel that I have a responsibility to do so as well. There’s a French expression, “Noblesse Oblige”, and I wholeheartedly agree with the principle of that expression.
During the hiatus, Head Coach Kim said that he wanted to go hiking with the team, but couldn’t because the coaching staff dissuaded him. Once the Coronavirus pandemic dies down, he really wants to go… Would you want to go with him if he asks?
I like going hiking. I like being physically active, so I think I’ll end up going with him.
Once the Coronavirus dies down, what is the one thing that you want to do most?
I’m not the type to go outside a lot, so… I think things will remain pretty much the same as before (laughter).
There’s a long journey ahead of you in Round 2. Is there a team that you really want to beat? Is that perhaps Gen.G because they’re ahead of T1 in the standings?
That’s right. It’s important that we beat Gen.G. However, I think that it’s also important to beat DragonX and Afreeca, who are also closely following in the standings. Especially Afreeca, because we lost to them last time.
Lastly, can you share your resolution with the fans?
There are a lot of matches coming up in such a short amount of time, so we’ll make sure to take care of ourselves to perform at the highest level. I hope that everyone stays healthy, and be wary of personal hygiene.
