Blizzard Entertainment has moved the next Hearthstone Masters Tour from Indonesia to Los Angeles due to the Coronavirus. On Tuesday afternoon the Hearthstone Esports team shared a message with the community explaining the decision.
The announcement reads: "We decided to make this move to protect the health and safety of our players, staff and everyone involved with the Masters Tour. We’re sad we won’t be able to hold the event as originally planned, but the safety of all participants is our top priority." The Masters Tour event in Indonesia would be the second Masters Tour event of 2020, after the previous one in Arlington concluded in January.
Blizzard is compensating players who already have booked their travels to Indonesia, and will pay back up to $250 USD if players provide proof of the rebooking. On social media, Hearthstone players responded with mixed feelings. On the one hand, there's understanding and appreciation for keeping players' health into account. But on the other hand, players aren't satisfied with the compensation they're getting. As it's a global event many players spent far more than $250—a flight from countries neighboring Indonesia is already close to $200 USD, and then there are still hotel costs to take into account.
The relocation of the Masters Tour is the last in many esports tournament affected by the Coronavirus. Earlier, the League of Legends Champions Korea decided to indefinitely play its series without an audience, and the Overwatch League canceled its events in China due to the Coronavirus epidemic in the country.
