In the finals of the 2019 KeSPA Cup, Afreeca Freecs completely dominated SANDBOX Gaming and defeated them 3-0. Afreeca’s performance today was aggressive and experienced.
In all three games, Afreeca took initiative. The player that stood out the most was Kim “Kiin” Gi-in. As the ace of the team, Kiin took down SANDBOX Gaming’s positioning by penetrating in with champions like Irelia, Kennen, and Hecarim. After the match, he was voted as the MVP for the tournament. Kiin will be awarded a limited edition Geekstar x KeSPA custom PC and 2 M Korean Won (≒1,713 USD) for the MVP.
The veterans of the team, Lee "Spirit" Da-yoon and Song "Fly" Yong-jun also contributed to the team’s victory much as well. In all three matches, Spirit took initiative over SANDBOX’s Kim “OnFleek” Jang-gyeom, never giving up the initiative. As Spirit had domination over the jungle, the Afreeca players were able to play more freely. Fly showed off both carry and team-focused picks in Ekko and Ornn.
By winning the championship today, Afreeca Freecs successfully took the first step out for 2020. Afreeca will be awarded 40 M Korean Won (≒30,000 USD) as the prize money.
