After recently retiring from the Overwatch League as players, Scott “Custa” Kennedy and Jake “Jake” Lyon are joining the Watchpoint talent team for the 2020 season. Custa will be part of the analyst group on the desk, while Jake will cast matches as he has for the past two Overwatch World Cup competitions.

Jake announced his retirement from competitive play last weekend, and Custa’s announcement came just a few hours prior to the Overwatch League’s announcement. In the announcement, OWL also included some insights from both Jake and Custa on their new chapters and new roles.

"I knew I wanted to step away from competitive play, and since I had tried and enjoyed casting at the Overwatch World Cup in 2018 and 2019, I figured it would be a great area to put my experience in Overwatch to good use!" Jake said. "I'm excited to tell the stories of pro players to the world as faithfully as I can."

I think it was the right time to make this decision,"
Custa explained. "Ever since I've started playing video games and watching esports, I've always thought that being a part of the entertainment side would suit me really well. I've been given the opportunity to do so for the Overwatch League, so it was too good to pass up. As much as I've loved being a player, it's time to move onto something new."

While both players retiring was a somber news for Overwatch League fans , both figures remaining in prominent roles on the production side is a benefit to the community and the broadcast. This familiarity is especially important ahead of OWL 2020, which will scatter the teams to their hometowns for a fully globalized season of competition. Jake and Custa will serve as a comforting tether to fond familiarity as the league and community continue to expand.
