If there was one personality on Twitch whose persona could transcend the platform itself, it was Dr. Disrespect. Now, according to a report on Friday morning from The Hollywood Reporter, he will get the chance to.
Hershel "Guy" Beahm, has secured a deal with Skybound Entertainment, Robert Kirkman's multi-platform production company to develop a scripted television series based on his character. Kirkman, famous for creating The Walking Dead, and his team are no strangers to building a world where fans young and old can become immersed in a story, reality or personality.
According to Skybound co-founder and president, David Alpert, the character Beahm has created is unlike any on the platform.
"There are lots of incredibly talented streamers, but there's something special about what Guy has done in creating this character. We really believe there's a unique world around the doctor."
A deal unlike any other with a content creator on Twitch, Beahm will tap into the mythos and backstory surrounding Dr. Disrespect to help tell the backstory of "how the doctor became the doctor." According to Beahm, they are early in the discussion on where they want to take the show but mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that they've had "some early discussions around animations."
For long-time fans of the Dr., who has millions of followers across all of his streaming and social platforms, Twitch is still his "bread and butter" and the company itself has been "extremely flexible" with his interests in expanding his brand alongside Skybound.
It didn't take long but the "two-time" has conquered the computer screen and now looks to take down the television one.
