Riot Games and KeSPA have started investigating as cvMax, former Griffin head coach, claimed there’s controversy behind Kanavi’s move to JD Gaming.

On the 16th (KST), former Griffin head coach Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho, who seemed to be triggered by Griffin players asking cvMax to stop talking falsely about the team, started revealing some of Griffin’s operations on stream. There were many things he talked about, like the Griffin front office and their director, Cho Gyu-nam, but the most sensitive issue was about the loan-transfer process of Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok.

In his streams, cvMax spoke about how the Kanavi-JDG transfer took place. When Kanavi was back in Korea for a vacation after the spring split, when he was on loan, JDG suggested a complete transfer, where Kanavi answered that he’d be thinking about it. “With this, Cho accused Kanavi of tampering and told him that Cho would be trying to solve this situation properly. Soon after, Cho told Kanavi that he has to go to JDG and that he has to pick from a 3-year or 5-year contract,” claimed cvMax. “Kanavi wanted a 1-year contract, but he said if he had to choose between 3 years and 5 years, he would choose 3 years. [However], Cho had Kanavi signed for 5 years and 200 M KRW per year and gained 1 B KRW as a transfer fee for himself.”

In response, KeSPA held an emergency meeting with Riot Korea and checked the facts. Currently, KeSPA said that they and Riot are under investigation of Kanavi’s transfer to JDG to “check if the transfer and contract procedure was proper and if the contract was carried out accordingly,” and that they will “announce details after checking the facts and stances of each party related”.

Meanwhile, Riot Korea will be cooperating with Riot China to investigate both JDG and Griffin.
